about me
I am a Registered Psychotherapist and a full member of the Australia and New Zealand Association of Psychotherapy Ltd (ANZAP).
I have a diploma of Adult Psychotherapy in the Conversational Model and I am an Accredited Supervisor with ANZAP. I also have a diploma of Counselling in Person Centred Counselling.
I began as a therapist working for Relationship Services in late 2007, seeing couples, individuals and family court clients. For several years I also facilitated men’s groups at Stopping Violence Dunedin. In 2010 I began in Private Practice working full time, and then in 2013 I joined the team at Otago Polytechnic Student Health Services and shared my time between there and my Private Practice. I currently work full time in private practice at Dunedin Psychotherapy and Counselling, seeing individuals for therapy and supervision.
We can come to therapy for many different reasons, e.g. anxiety, depression, breakdown in relationships, past trauma resurfacing or perhaps we are experiencing some kind of crisis. Other times we are curious about our repeated patterns of behaviour that are no longer useful or working for us. Whatever the reason, I recognise that it takes courage to reach out for help.
My training in the Conversational Model supports my belief that the “relationship” between client and therapist is the foundation and core of any therapy. To build this relationship I believe you need a safe and trusting place where you can explore and understand your emotions. I will listen to you with respect and empathy, as you work towards the development of an increased sense of self.
